Econo Lodge existed before Super 8. This economy motel chain brand is the second largest brand within the Option Hotels group, based in the United States and Canada. Created by Vernon Myers and his son Vernon Jr. to have the finest accommodation in the budget-friendly category, Econo Travel now Econo Lodge materialized from Lloyd Tarbutton, a local businessman, with funding and marketing assistance.
Interestingly, Sandy Econo, the “mascot” of the hotel dressed in a Scottish skirt and tam walking around the neighborhood handing out brochures, began company. However, in 1983, the hotel chain was sold for $836 million, all 306 hotels, and instead of Econo Travel, the name Econo Lodge was adapted. Before Paul Wallace bought the brand and refurbished it and finally sold it to Choice Hotels International in 1990, the brand was sold and purchased several times.
