It’s a lovely park to play volleyball and relax. There’s plenty of shade and room to run around. It’s fun walking trails overlooking the Stanislaus River. Don’t forget to carry your own chairs , tables or blankets.
There is unauthorized access to the river, but it is very steep and the water level seems very low. But that doesn’t seem to deter people from barbecuing and hanging out next to the lake. If you would like quick access to the river, try Mokaleme near the Fish Hatchery off McIntire and 88.
This is the place to be this summer. The first thing you see when you park all the way down the back of the parking lot to your right is like a small area with a bunch of tables but no barbecue grills. Next to it is the volleyball court that people normally want to play at the end when it’s time to leave the pool. When you continue walking down the trail, you’ll see a cliff where you can go in to get to the water so that people want to swim from a rope and dive in or let the relaxing streams carry you and enjoy. If you plan to continue walking down the train, stay on your left as you hit the cliff.
